The Department of Chemistry is a dynamically developing academic and educational unit of Dulaty University that plays a key role in training highly qualified teachers in the fields of chemistry and biology. The department’s activities are aimed at providing our students not only with in‑depth theoretical knowledge but also with practical skills that will help them work successfully in modern conditions.
The mission of the department is to train highly qualified chemistry teachers and educators who are able to carry out their professional activities within the renewed secondary school curriculum and are ready to work and develop in constantly changing socio‑economic conditions.
The Department of Chemistry was established in 1996. Over different years the department was headed by the following academic leaders: Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor R. A. Amreev (1996–2003), Doctor of Chemical Sciences G. K. Sugurбекова (2004–2008), Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Zh. I. Sabiralieva (2008–2020). Since 2020 the head of the department has been Candidate of Chemical Sciences Asylzhan Mazhibayev. From the day of its foundation the department has been actively developing, introducing innovative approaches to the methodology of teaching chemistry and integrating the research results of its staff into the educational process.
We are proud of the department’s achievements, among which it is important to mention: participation in grant‑funded projects of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2012–2015); establishment of modern chemistry and biology laboratories on the university campus (2015); launch of the master’s degree educational programme (2019); successful defence of doctoral dissertations by two young staff members of the department, E. Kambarova and G. Shynyшерова (2023–2024); and the start of the international educational project “Mendeleev Classes” in cooperation with D. I. Mendeleev Russian University of Chemical Technology (2023).
Our teaching staff are experienced specialists, scholars and practitioners who possess not only profound knowledge in their field but also extensive experience in research and industry. The department is actively engaged in scientific research in the fields of the physical chemistry of disperse systems, heterogeneous catalysis, thermolysis of sulfur‑containing coordination compounds, and methodologies for preparing school students for chemistry olympiads.
The department’s educational programmes are regularly updated in line with current labour‑market requirements.

The graduate profile of the department is shaped through the implementation of its educational programmes. It describes a specialist who is able to carry out professional activities within the renewed content of modern secondary education and to work in a constantly changing socio‑economic environment. The graduate model assumes continuous improvement of one’s skills, lifelong learning, and fulfilment of the teacher’s social mission to society.
