The implementation of the mission of the department "Design and Fashion Industry" is to train highly qualified specialists in the production of light industry goods and various areas of design activity, to provide domestic human resources that meet modern standards of the fashion industry and innovative design, the needs of potential consumers and is carried out in accordance with the profile and mission of the university.
The department "Technology and design of light industry products and design" was organized in 1966, the department was headed by M. A. Nuriev, now a Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor of the Almaty State Pedagogical University. In1971, the department was separated into a separate department "Technology of sewing products". The first teachers leading classes in this specialty were Tikhonova V. N., Kapustina V. Ya., Sergalieva N. S., Ryskulova B. R. and Tarpanova S. B. In 2021, due to the transition from the Faculty of Technology to the Faculty of Art and Sports, the Department of Technology and Construction of Light Industry Products and Design was changed to the Department of Design and Fashion Industry
Currently, the department has 9 candidates of Science, 2 PhD doctors, 12 masters, 7 members of the Eurasian Union of Designers. Teachers of the department are constantly improving their qualifications, many members of the department have completed master's and PhD doctoral studies, having defended dissertations that are of interest both in scientific and pedagogical terms. The results of these works are implemented in the educational process and in production.
The department is one of the oldest departments of the M. H. Dulati University, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary. The development of creative skills is promoted by highly qualified personnel with academic degrees and titles, laboratories of the department equipped with the latest equipment, computer equipment of the latest generations, as well as the educational, scientific and production site "Symbat" and student circles of the department. A large number of students from neighboring countries, who now make up the elite of the technical intelligentsia abroad, studied in the specialties of the department: Gerasimova N. A.
